Subject: Ukrainian doctors - Some good news
A letter dated May 1st 2007 from the Irish Legal Aid Board advised the wife and three sons of Dr. Vadym Lazaryev that they are to be afforded refugee status in Ireland. Their arrival in Ireland on August 30th 2006 was nothing short of a miracle. They are living in a refugee hostel in Cork but with this great news their lives will change for the better. Their initial application for asylum was refused on the grounds that Dr. Lazaryev's application had been rejected. Interestingly Drs. Lazaryev and Ishchenko are still awaiting a high court hearing in relation to their applications for asylum. Dr. Ishchenko has not seen his wife or first born twins since he fled the Ukraine in Sept 2004.

Please continue to lobby the Tainiste and Minister for Justice Michael McDowell at info@michaelmcdowell.ie on behalf of the doctors so that they too will be given asylum in Ireland.

Thank you to all those who have prayed, sent emails, written letters and supported these heroic men and their families who have made, and continue to make immense sacrifices in defence of life.
